Introducing Intelligent Realities and their virtual environment development
Intelligent Realities is a virtual environment development company that is leading the way in creating immersive virtual experiences. Our development builds are high-resolution, with the intention of creating the best virtual spaces out there. However, as real-time virtual space demands certain limitations, some downsampling of polygons is inevitable to get the desired polycount threshold. The development build will eventually be moved across to Unity3D once it’s finalised, where we will give everyone a more accurate view of the build through better representative images. Initial Concept Development in MidJourney
The initial concept development process for this virtual space was undertaken with the aid of MidJourney’s AI bot, this is the first time we have attempted to integrate this new AI technology into our production pipeline. MidJourney’s AI bot helped to streamline the virtual environment development process by providing automated concept generation and validation. This meant that we could quickly generate ideas for virtual spaces, allowing us to focus more of our energy on refining the concept and developing a detailed 3D model.

Translating Concepts into Working 3D Models
Once we had a clear concept for the virtual space, we began the process of developing a 3D model from it. This involved creating detailed models of environments and objects that would be present in the virtual space. We used a variety of software to create these models, including Maxon’s Cinema 4D and Unity3D. The end result is a realistic 3D virtual environment that can be explored and interacted with by users.
MidJourney has been widely praised for the concept generation bot it offers, allowing users to easily generate a concept at will. While concept generation with the help of AI maintains an engaging and convenient process, attempting to create an idea for translation into 3D can prove particularly challenging. The images generated provide an excellent concept starting point, however, their perspective and general geometry are often incorrect thus making them unusable for 3D creation. Consequently, although the concept-generating process is attractive and useful, AI still cannot deliver precise models ready for use in any environment.
Visualisers take a crucial role in the creative development process, as they interpret concept visuals in a virtual environment. This includes evaluating and understanding each component of the visual, from shape and form to the lighting and the scene’s scale and depth. Once these fundamentals are determined, their expertise comes into play in recreating the visual experience for the target audience within a virtual world. Their ability to interpret images and ideas from either creatives or AI into an interactive experience is essential for a successful production.
